PCS Softstarter Undocumented faults
Question: What do the undocumented faults of the LED Flashing 8, 11 or 12 times mean on a PCS softstarter?
Answer: The PCS Troubleshooting guide defines LED Fault Flashes from 1 through 6, however 8, 11 and 12 LED PCS Fault Flashes are unpublished in the literature. Here is the explanation for each type of fault.
F8 - Internal 24 V Power Fail (8 flashes)
This fault only occurs on PCS-108...480 amp units. Checks internal supply power when internal bypass contactor pulls in.Solution
- Check for a weak external Power supply on 24VAC/DC powered units.
- If external power is ok, it might be an internal fault on the PCS which is not field repairable. The entire PCS will need to be replaced.
F11 - Personality Checksum Fault (11 flashes)
This fault can occur on any size PCS unit. This is not field repairable. The entire PCS will need to be replaced.
F12 - Firmware Corruption (12 flashes)
This fault can occur on any size PCS unit. This is not field repairable. The entire PCS will need to be replaced.
